We stand with Charles Allen.

As you may have heard, Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen is facing recall efforts. Organizers of the recall campaign claim Allen has not done enough to address public safety concerns. We at Neighbors for Justice do not agree.

Charles Allen is serious about community safety.

Allen understands that supporting the hard work of violence interrupters and credible messengers is crucial in any successful public safety initiative.

Allen has gone out of his way to platform those who are on the front lines of promoting public safety. Community members like our colleagues Anthony Petty and James Carpenter play a vital role in District safety by reaching out to at-risk youth and working directly to prevent violence in the District.

Allen is responsive: After the Potomac Avenue shooting last year, Allen met with community members and advocated for a Safe Passages program to be implemented at Potomac Ave.

We support Charles Allen’s commitment to safety and expect to see more of it in the future.

External groups are bringing in people from outside of DC to stand near Safeway, Trader Joes, Giant, and Eastern Market asking people to sign a petition for Charles Allen, which is really about getting signatures to recall him. Please “decline to sign” and spread the word.
