Joel Castón Wins Election as the First ANC Commissioner at the DC Jail

Congratulations to Joel Castón, who will serve as the inaugural commissioner of ANC7F07. Mr. Castón received 48 of the 142 votes in this historic election on June 15, 2021. Mr. Castón is already a leader, known for his many accomplishments, such as helping found the Young Men Emerging unit at the jail and serving as their first mentor, authoring his own memoir and policy brief, and being an advocate in DC on justice issues. He will be an amazing founding commissioner for the residents of the jail, Harriet Tubman women’s shelter, and Park Kennedy apartments and condos. The Department of Corrections indicated that Commissioner Castón will receive an office or workspace that can be used for eight hours a day, a tablet, and email access.
